Severe Toothache

Broken or Chipped Teeth
Accidents happen fast—one moment you're fine, the next you're holding pieces of your tooth. We restore broken teeth immediately, protecting exposed nerves and restoring your appearance the same day.
Knocked-Out Tooth
Time is critical—teeth reimplanted within an hour have the best survival rate. Call immediately and we'll walk you through preservation steps while you're on your way. Quick action saves teeth.
Dental Abscess
Facial swelling and severe pain signal dangerous infection that can spread throughout your body. We drain abscesses, eliminate infection, and prescribe antibiotics to protect your health immediately.
Uncontrolled Bleeding
Gum trauma or post-extraction bleeding needs immediate attention. We stop bleeding, identify the cause, and ensure proper healing begins right away.
What to Do in a Dental Emergency
If you have a knocked-out tooth:
- Handle by the crown, never the root
- Rinse gently if dirty—don't scrub
- Try to reinsert into socket or store in milk
- Call immediately—time is critical
If you have severe pain:
- Rinse with warm salt water
- Take ibuprofen (not aspirin)
- Apply cold compress externally
- Call for same-day appointment
If you have facial swelling:
- This is serious—call immediately
- Don't wait for it to get worse
- Facial infections can spread rapidly

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I prevent dental emergencies?
Many emergencies result from untreated problems that worsen over time. Regular checkups catch issues before they become painful emergencies. Wearing mouthguards during sports, avoiding chewing ice or hard objects, and addressing dental problems early all reduce emergency risk. After treating your emergency, we'll create a prevention plan to protect you from future dental crises.
Can you save a knocked-out tooth?
Yes, if you act fast. Teeth reimplanted within an hour have the highest success rate. Handle the tooth by the crown only, rinse gently if dirty, and try to reinsert it into the socket. If that's not possible, store it in milk and get here immediately. Time is critical for tooth survival.
What if I'm afraid of dentists but need emergency care?
Dental fear is common, especially during emergencies when you're already stressed. We offer oral sedation to help you relax, use gentle techniques, and explain everything we're doing. Many anxious patients are surprised how comfortable emergency treatment can be with the right approach.
What if I have a dental emergency after hours?
Call our office and follow the emergency prompts. While our regular hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, we provide emergency instructions and can often accommodate urgent cases. For life-threatening emergencies involving facial swelling that affects breathing or swallowing, go to the emergency room immediately.
Do you treat children's dental emergencies?
Yes, we treat patients of all ages for dental emergencies. Children's dental emergencies are especially stressful, and we prioritize getting kids out of pain quickly. Our gentle approach and comfort amenities help make emergency treatment less scary for young patients.
Will you prescribe pain medication?
We prescribe appropriate medications based on your specific condition. This may include antibiotics for infections and pain relievers as needed. Our goal is to fix the problem causing pain rather than just masking symptoms, but we ensure you're comfortable during healing.
How much does an emergency dental visit cost?
Our emergency exam special is $99, which includes diagnosis and treatment planning. Additional treatment costs vary based on what's needed—we'll provide exact pricing before any treatment begins. We accept all PPO insurance and offer CareCredit financing for immediate treatment without upfront payment.
What should I do for tooth pain until my appointment?
Rinse with warm salt water, take ibuprofen as directed (avoid aspirin which can increase bleeding), and apply a cold compress to the outside of your face. Avoid extremely hot or cold foods and don't place aspirin directly on the tooth. These provide temporary relief but aren't substitutes for professional treatment.
How quickly can you see me for a dental emergency?
Same day, usually within hours of your call. We keep appointments open specifically for emergencies and prioritize patients in severe pain. Call early in the day for the most scheduling flexibility, but we'll do everything possible to see you today regardless of when you call.
What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe pain that prevents normal activities, facial swelling, knocked-out or broken teeth, uncontrolled bleeding, dental abscesses, or any dental trauma. If you're unsure whether your situation is an emergency, call us—we'll assess your symptoms and advise whether you need immediate care or can wait for a regular appointment.
