TMJ stands for temporomandibular joints, which are the joints of the jaw – a set of hinges located on both sides of the face in front of the ears that connect the lower jaw to the skull. These joints allow you open your mouth and to make forward, backward and side-to-side movements of the lower jaw in conjunction with the facial muscles used for chewing.

What is TMJ Disorder?

TMJ disorder is a debilitating condition that is commonly caused by a bad bite or misalignment of the teeth. People who suffer from TMJ disorder may experience:

  • Discomfort while chewing or biting
  • A dull & aching pain in the face
  • Severe headaches
  • Reduced ability to open or close the mouth
  • Jaw pain of varying degrees
  • Noise from the jaw such as clicking, popping or grating
  • Jaw locking
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Loose teeth
  • Ringing in the ears

A Healthy Bite vs A Bad Bite

In a healthy chewing (masticatory) system, all its components – the teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints, nerves and muscles work in unison so a person can use his/her teeth to properly chew, swallow, speak and convey beauty. But when the bite is poor, the chewing system distracts the lower jaw from the joints to make the upper and lower teeth fit better. This in turn, causes the tear of discs and muscle spasms.

What is TMJ Bite Stabilizer Therapy?

TMJ Bite Stabilizer Therapy is a treatment designed to help with:

  • TMJ symptoms
  • Severely worn teeth
  • Loose teeth
  • Bone loss due to occlusal trauma
  • Extreme tooth sensitivity to cold and hot
  • Bone recession due to bite trauma
  • and more

The TMJ Bite Stabilizer is a clear, removable, hard acrylic appliance that transforms a poor bite into a good bite. This therapy is designed to eliminate all the traumatic stress from the teeth, muscles and joints. It is safe, non-evasive and reversible. In most cases, patients undergoing TMJ Bite Stabilizing Therapy feel immediate relief.
